Asbestos in talc
Talc deposits include asbestos minerals such as chrysotile and amphiboles that may be carried over into consumer products. Optical microscopy and x-ray diffraction analyses may not reveal their presence. Examples are given of electron microscopy procedures that permit detection and measurement.
متن کاملAsbestos in talc powders
Talc powder and soapstone may contain asbestos. Random samples taken in the course of the past ten years from materials in use in Germany revealed only low asbestos contents. The present paper is based on analyses of bulk sample carried out by the German Berufsgenossenschaften as part of their prevention activities. In about one quarter of the 57 talc powder samples and 35 soapstone samples ana...
متن کاملIdentification and quantitation of asbestos in talc
The currently used analytical methods for identification, characterization and quantitation of asbestos fiber in consumer talcum products include polarized light microscopy, x-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy with selected area electron diffraction and electron microprobe techniques. Light microscope methods have severe limitations imposed by the ultimate size resoluti...
متن کاملAsbestos Presence in a Factory that Produced Asbestos-Containing Products
In 2007, research was carried out to determine the type and amount of asbestos fibers in a Croatian factory with a long history of making asbestos-containing products.Since the 1970s, asbestos fibres have been considered carcinogenic in humans i.e as a known cancer-causing agent. In the environment, asbestos fibres are inactive and naturally resist biodegradation. In time, fibres can only be gr...
متن کاملEvaluation of respiratory effects in miners and millers exposed to talc free of asbestos and silica.
Miners and millers of talc ore, free from asbestos and silica, were examined for respiratory effects. A study of 116 subjects included the modified British Medical Research Council respiratory symptom questionnaire, simple spirometry, chest radiography, and limited examination of the chest. A one-year follow-up evaluation was performed on 103 subjects. Of the 12 subjects whose chest radiographs...
